Sri Lanka Event for the Global Nutrition Report

The Sri Lanka event for the Global Nutrition Report 2014 was held on 16 March 2015, in Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, Colombo. The event was organised by the Scaling up Nutrition People’s Forum.

About 65 participants attended the event including members of UN agencies, local and international non-governmental organisations and the private sector, as well as special invited guests and representatives from government. Along with members of the media, the audience heard speeches from the chief guests -- Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, Hon. Minister of Health and Indigenous Medicine and Ms. Rosie Senanayake, Hon. State Minister of Child Affairs. Mr. William Lynch, Country Director for Save the Children, delivered the welcome speech for the event, highlighting the importance of the Global Nutrition Report.Mrs Rosie Senanayake

At this event, key data and findings contained in the Global Nutrition Report 2014 were presented. UNICEF Sri Lanka Nutrition Specialist Dr.Renuka Jayatissa presented the Sri Lanka Nutrition Country Profile, highlighting issues such as wasting and anaemia, as well as success stories. Professor Harendra de Silva presented on the challenges and ways forward in relation to Sri Lanka’s nutrition status.

The event was a great success, with the audience providing positive feedback on the experience, inspirations and lessons learnt from the launch.
