Dr Ferew Lemma very sadly passed away in December 2021. He was a champion of the GNR from its inception, serving on our Stakeholder Group since the first Report in 2014 and playing a key leadership role to support our efforts to drive action on malnutrition.
Dr Ferew made a significant contribution to alleviating malnutrition both globally and in Ethiopia where he served as a Senior Nutrition Advisor to the Ministry of Health for over a decade. He had an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of children and women through nutrition, and countless people have survived and thrived as a result of his considerable efforts. He was a public health physician with a PhD in Public Health Nutrition from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and worked in various capacities across higher education, health service delivery and management, as well as research. He also served as a Deputy Head of Regional Health Bureau, Assistant Professor of Nutrition and Planning and Programme Officer at Jimma University in Ethiopia. The impact of his incredible life of service will be felt for many years to come.
The Stakeholder Group and wider nutrition community collectively mourn the loss of Dr Ferew, and our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues.
