The upcoming Tokyo N4G Summit comes at a time when poor diets and resulting malnutrition, in all its forms, are among the greatest global health and societal challenges of our time. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, we lost almost 250 million years of life prematurely, every year, worldwide due to child and maternal malnutrition. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, malnutrition and related premature deaths are increasing. The impacts of the pandemic have exacerbated food insecurity, poor diets and malnutrition globally, threatening a lasting impact on children and adults.

The time to act is now and the Tokyo Nutrition for Growth Summit presents stakeholders from across constituencies with an unprecedented opportunity to drive forward action for nutrition by making strong and SMART commitments.

Building on this opportunity, the GNR, ATNI & RUK will bring together representatives from across constituencies to explore positive examples of accountability and break down the misconception of accountability as a barrier to progress.

To open the event, the GNR will set the scene and give a short overview of the Nutrition Accountability Framework (NAF), the world’s first independent and comprehensive platform for registering SMART nutrition commitments and monitoring nutrition action.

Following this, ATNI will present on the role of accountability in ensuring progress from the business sector, RUK will then speak to the role of accountability in supporting and bolstering advocacy, and the Nutrition Data Partners Group will speak to the critical role of data in strengthening accountability.

We will then move to a moderated discussion with key representatives from the various constituency groups. Each representative will be invited to share their unique perspective on the role of accountability and provide examples of how accountability is driving positive action for nutrition in their specific sector.

There will be a live illustrator present during the event to capture the discussion and bring to life the story of accountability for nutrition.

We hope you are able to join this important pre-Summit side event!
