Asia-Pacific Roundtable: Building Momentum for the Nutrition for Growth Year of Action

Building Momentum for the Nutrition for Growth Year of Action

Wednesday 17 February 2021 at 9:00−11:00 UTC | 10:00−12:00 CEST | 16:00–18:00 ICT

The Global Nutrition Report and the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement will co-host the first in a series of regional roundtables to mobilise key actors at the regional and country level around the Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Year of Action and Tokyo N4G Summit 2021. Register now to listen in!

The Tokyo N4G Summit, to be held in 2021 under the auspices of the government of Japan, provides a historic opportunity to transform the way the world tackles the global challenge of malnutrition. Bringing together a diverse range of actors from across the Asia-Pacific region, this first roundtable will create space for group discussion of the N4G Year of Action, the Tokyo N4G Summit and the commitment-making process.

Roundtable speakers

To open the roundtable, welcome remarks will be made Dr. Emi Inaoka from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and Gerda Verburg, UN Assistant Secretary-General and SUN Movement Coordinator. The Chair of the Global Nutrition Report Independent Expert Group, Dr Renata Micha, will present key resources that track previous N4G commitments (2013–2017) and progress towards achieving global targets.

Roundtable agenda

The presentation will also showcase the Global Nutrition Report’s newly developed N4G Commitment Registration Form and N4G Commitment Registration Guide. There will then be a moderated discussion in which a select group of participants from the Asia-Pacific region will have the opportunity to:

  • share their perspectives on the Year of Action
  • ask questions about the commitment-making process and the requirements for making commitments in line with this process
  • reflect on the opportunities and challenges around making commitments
  • explore what commitments are required to ensure faster and fairer progress towards ending malnutrition in all its forms
