Commitment Statement: Ending Child Stunting and Wasting in Ethiopia by 2030

Action Against Hunger [ACF], as key partner in Ethiopia’s humanitarian and development journey, affirm our unwavering commitment to reduce and ultimately end stunting and wasting among children under five years of age by 2030. Recognizing that child malnutrition is both a life-threatening emergency and a long-term development challenge, we pledge to operationalize a nutrition-centric HDP nexus approach that bridges lifesaving humanitarian action with resilience-building and peace-promoting programming.

Our vision is clear: - no child in Ethiopia should suffer the irreversible consequences of stunting or the acute risks of wasting. To achieve this, we will prioritize integrated, multisectoral interventions that address the immediate needs of vulnerable children while simultaneously tackling the structural drivers of malnutrition. This includes strengthening health systems, expanding access to safe water and sanitation, improving food security, and promoting inclusive social protection mechanisms that safeguard the most marginalized.

We commit to scaling up lifesaving nutrition services—such as community-based management of acute malnutrition, micronutrient supplementation, and maternal-child health support—while embedding these efforts within sustainable systems that foster resilience. By aligning humanitarian response with long-term development planning, we will ensure continuity of care, reduce dependency on emergency aid, and build pathways toward self-reliance and peace.

Central to this commitment is the empowerment of communities and local institutions. We will invest in capacity building, evidence-based monitoring, and accountability frameworks that enable Ethiopian stakeholders to lead, innovate, and sustain progress. We will also strengthen partnerships with civil society, the private sector, and international donors to mobilize resources and foster collective action.

We recognize that reducing stunting and wasting is not only a health imperative but also a foundation for peace and prosperity. Malnutrition undermines human capital, perpetuates cycles of poverty, and exacerbates fragility. By addressing it through a nexus lens, we contribute to breaking these cycles and advancing Ethiopia’s broader goals of stability, equity, and inclusive growth.

By 2030, we envision an Ethiopia where every child thrives, nourished in body and mind, supported by resilient systems, and nurtured within peaceful communities. This is our collective pledge: to end needs, to safeguard futures, and to ensure that the fight against child malnutrition is won for generations to come.
