Number of participants (women and men) in breastfeeding training processes.
Description
The action plan considers the development of two strategic pillars: a permanent scientific research programme and educational content for the Salvadoran population on health and human development issues. Based on these strategic pillars, the following actions will be executed:
• Design a research programme that provides technical-scientific evidence to influence public policies on breastfeeding, food security and their determinants at the national and local levels.
• Design and implement comprehensive interventions to promote best practices in feeding and nutrition, encouraging behavioural changes in families.
• Design educational programmes for children and adults to strengthen families’ knowledge of the framework of rights related to breastfeeding and food security.
• Design educational programmes for the population to strengthen consumers’ knowledge of the application of the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes.
• Implement communication campaigns through different media to promote behavioural change and good practices in health, breastfeeding and food safety.
• Create and strengthen networks of strategic allies for the implementation of community interventions and advocacy (media, universities, civil society organisations, government or others).
• Design and manage projects that contribute to addressing the determinants of breastfeeding and food security, including those related to early childhood care.
• Support human milk banks and territorial support networks as strategies to promote breastfeeding nationally.
Overarching commitment (for commitments submitted pre-2025)
Title
Breastfeeding and food security
Description
Working in coordination with all sectors involved, we will contribute to national initiatives for: 1) the diminution of chronic malnutrition in children under 2 years of age and children under 5 years of age through the promotion, protection and support of exclusive breastfeeding and prolonged breastfeeding up to 2 years of age or older; and (2) implementation of educational strategies and communication campaigns aimed at women of childbearing age and pregnant and lactating women, including their partners. Both national initiatives are intended to promote behavioural change in terms of food education and dietary diversification in geographic regions with lower income and food insecurity.
