To improve healthy diets y 20% in families that participate of the diabetes project until 2022
Description
• Carry out a rapid participatory diagnosis of the nutritional situation of the identified communities. This diagnosis will consider actions that recover traditional knowledge and good indigenous feeding practices; based on this data, produce will be selected for the greenhouses and nurseries of the different communities.
• Prepare work plans with local organisations. The work plan with the community will define the actions for implementing the greenhouses, the available land, the materials to be used, the type of construction, the implementation schedule and the budget details.
Overarching commitment (for commitments submitted pre-2025)
Title
Indigenous food systems for healthy diets
Description
FILAC is committed to promoting healthy eating habits through traditional foods by means of actions in three countries. To this end, a rapid participatory diagnosis of the food situation in the identified communities will be carried out, along with an analysis of their current food habits. Based on the data collected, healthy, locally produced foods that should be incorporated into diets will be identified. After that, four municipal nurseries and/or greenhouses will be established as gardens featuring different varieties and plants that make up the basis of indigenous peoples’ diets. At the same time, work will be done to identify various recipes that combine traditional foods with others that are easy to produce and prepare in the environmental conditions where the actions are implemented. There will also be workshops on indigenous gastronomy and the recovery of good food practices and traditional medicine with local production. Additionally, the prevalence of type 2 diabetes in the intervention area will be assessed.
