Increased size of the Food Loss and Waste Community of Practice
Description
FAO pledges to support Members to reach country-level nutrition-related targets of the SDGs through providing access to high-quality dietary data as a global public good. As the global lead in providing a public repository for dietary data and data on food, agriculture and agrifood systems as they relate to diets, FAO’s first action area for nutrition is to generate, collate and share data on healthy diets and agrifood systems. FAO’s efforts can facilitate decision-makers use of more and better data to guide the selection, design, and implementation of impactful policies and actions across agrifood systems for healthy diets. In support to FAO’s role in the production and dissemination of global public goods, including data, databases, and statistics, FAO aims to support the enabling environment for translation of data and evidence to policy and action. This includes data on dietary intake, metrics on diets, data on hunger, and drivers from across agrifood systems including food loss and waste. The Technical Platform on the Measurement and Reduction of Food Loss and Waste hosted by FAO facilitates information-sharing and in-depth discussion including through a Community of Practice to support efforts around the globe to reduce food loss and waste. These efforts align with FAO’s mandate to respond to demands articulated by countries and regions and will support Members to reach their SDG targets. Smart statement #6: By 2030, to increase access to data on food loss and waste, FAO will expand the Food Loss and Waste Community of Practice integrated into the G20 Technical Platform for Food Loss and Waste by 30 percent over the 2024 baseline.
