Reduce chronic malnutrition in children under 5 years of age to 30% or below
Description
The Mozambique government, led by the Technical Secretariat for Food Security and Nutrition (SETSAN), in coordination with the key ministries (including agriculture, health, public works, social action, education and economy, amongst others) involved in the Food and Nutrition Security Strategy [PESAN] 2024–2030), commits to reducing chronic malnutrition in children under 5 years of age from 37% in 2022 to 30% or below by 2030.
Key actions include:
• The operationalisation of PESAN in all provinces and districts in the country.
• Strengthening the implementation of high-impact nutrition actions in a coordinated and holistic manner, with a greater focus on the provinces with the highest prevalence of stunting in the country.
• Strengthening advocacy actions to increase state budget allocation for high-impact nutrition interventions.
To ensure effective implementation and monitoring of these actions, the Mozambique government will assess semester and annual progress reports, as well as review progress on key PESAN indicators in the national information systems.
