Commitment

Establish a nutrition information system in health bodies.

Government / Honduras

March 2022 — December 2030

Description

The Integrated Health Information System (SIIS) will use instruments and tools to measure and assess the first 1000 days of the project as well as a network system to gather consolidated treatment data on a daily basis from health facilities (using electronic medical records). The benefit of an enhanced SIIS as part of the Health Department is that coverage data will be obtained at the local level within health facilities, along with summary data at the municipality level. This will provide information on the level of malnutrition across the whole municipality.

The first phase of the project will be the selection of the first 170 municipalities to initiate SIIS, prioritising a network of health facilities and a network of volunteers. Municipal teams will receive full training, as will the network of community workers. This is expected to be achieved within the first two years. The second phase will consist of putting the nutrition information systems into operation. This will require a mechanism for the approval and feedback of lessons learned in order to refine the methodology. This is expected to be completed by the fourth year (2025).

Title

Implement Nutrition Action Plan

Description

The objective of the Nutrition Action Plan, unveiled as part of the Política y Estrategia Nacional de Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional (National Food and Nutrition Security Policy and Strategy; PyENSAN) 2030, is to end all forms of malnutrition and address lifelong nutritional needs. The plan focuses on undernourishment, chronic malnutrition, growth retardation, wasting, underweight and overweight among children under the age of 5 years, and anaemia in women and children, among other micronutrient deficiencies. It also focuses on halting the upward trend of excessive weight and obesity and reducing the burden of diet-related non-communicable diseases across all age groups.
