3. Reduce the prevalence of anaemia among women of childbearing age by 61.4%
Description
The State of Côte d'Ivoire is committed to reducing this important problem of anaemia through the implementation of several strategies, including the curative treatment of anaemia in women of childbearing age and preventive supplementation in adolescents. Iron and folic acid supplementation will be put in place for pregnant and breastfeeding women. This supplementation will be done, in addition to health structures, at the community level in order to bring the service offer closer together. Also, innovations such as multiple supplementation with micronutrients containing iron and other micronutrients essential to pregnant women. Early breastfeeding within an hour of delivery will help reduce bleeding during delivery.
Other strategies to combat anaemia include the mandatory fortification/fortification of high-consumption foods (rice, bread flour). A multisectoral project involving 5 sectors (health, trade, industry, agriculture, communication) has been set up. To this end, the alliance bringing together representatives of these public sectors, the private sector, civil society and the research community will be set up. Nutritional education focused on local foods rich in iron and vitamin C and the promotion of breastfeeding will also be strengthened for the iron content directly assimilated by the body.
A study will be conducted to determine the role of iron deficiency in anaemia in women of childbearing age.
Surveillance will be implemented through rapid screening tests and frequent evaluations every 2 years.
