Commitment

Preventing chronic malnutrition in children under 5 years of age

Government / Benin

December 2024 — December 2028

Description

By 2028, the Government, with the support of partners, is committed to providing supplementation to 75% of breastfeeding women and infants through the scaling up of the Nutritional Supplementation Program in order to contribute to the reduction of the prevalence of acute malnutrition in children under 5 years of age. This will involve offering breastfeeding women and infants (6 to 24 months) nutritional supplements. This intervention will be coupled with awareness-raising and counselling activities to promote behavioural change and the adoption of good practices in food and nutrition. Therefore, all interventions in all other sectors will contribute to reducing the rate of chronic malnutrition. Progress will be tracked through NSP implementation data; A nutrition survey will be carried out in 2027-28 to verify the achievement of the target and to analyze the effects and impacts of the approach on the prevalence of chronic malnutrition in children under 5 years of age
