Commitment

Decrease the prevalence of stunting in children under 5 years of age (U5C) from 29.5% in 2019 to 25% in 2025

Government / Sierra Leone

January 2022 — December 2025

Description

With support from the UN-Nutrition REACH (Renewed Efforts Against Child Hunger) project, a Multisector Strategic Plan to Reduce Malnutrition in Sierra Leone, 2019–2025, was developed and costed. This is the common result framework for partners working with the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Secretariat in the fight against malnutrition in the country. The document outlines what actions each SUN platform can undertake to contribute to the reduction of malnutrition in the country. The budget for the implementation of the multisector plan was categorised into nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive actions as well as nutrition governance.

Partners’ project activities are based on the multisector plan, and assessment of progress is done through the SUN Joint Annual Assessment (JAA) tool. There are plans for results of the JAA to be a basis for reviewing actions implemented in the previous year in a bigger forum, and the following year’s activities to be agreed upon for each sector or platform.

Moreover, for effective coordination and collaboration between partners for better impact of project interventions, a stakeholder and nutrition action mapping exercise is currently being undertaken with support from Irish Aid through the UN-Nutrition REACH project. Dissemination of the results among implementing partners and donors will contribute to improved planning at the national and subnational levels as well as other multisectoral nutrition processes such as coordination, collaboration, and integration of interventions for better impact on target beneficiaries.
