Commitment

Increase the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding among infants below 6 months old from 54% in 2019 to 70% in 2025

Government / Sierra Leone

January 2022 — December 2025

Description

The Multisector Implementation Plan (MSP), Infant and Young Child Feeding strategy, and the mother, infant and young child nutrition (MIYCN) and social and behaviour change communication (SBCC) strategy documents have been finalised, costed and are ready for implementation. If the required funding is secured, implementing these strategies should increase the rate of exclusive breastfeeding and improve MIYCN indicators.

The revitalisation of community nutrition activities by the community health workers' programme in the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, as well as mothers' support groups activities, will likely increase the rate of exclusive breastfeeding for children under 6 months of age.
