To contribute to prevent denutrition and to slow loss of autonomy of the elderly people in France and Europe, through available and accessible nutritional support to the elderly people
Description
Nutriset has developed a specific nutritional solution dedicated to the elders to prevent denutrition and loss of autonomy. This solution is innovative as it is to be integrated into the food preparation. However, if denutrition is recognized, solutions to address this issue are still weak. We will work at different levels so more beneficiaries can be reached out:- Awareness raising and advocacy for more denutrition recognition: public institutions and private sector engagement, contribution and participation to symposium and conference, media coverage - Commercial development to present the product, their use and impact to potential clients.- Industrial upgrade to be able to produce in large quantities- Specific trainings of medical staff and kitchen staff on the use and preparation of the product, awareness raising among beneficiaries' communities on denutrition and the impact of the product- Research and clinical trials to prove the product efficiency in collaboration with public hospitals and nursing home.
Overarching commitment (for commitments submitted pre-2025)
Title
Elderly people vs denutrition
Description
Contrary to popular belief, the nutritional needs of older people are equivalent or greater than those of younger adults. However, the spontaneous food consumption of the elderly decreases with age, due to physiological, psycho-social and pathological factors from which they may suffer.
This imbalance between high needs and low intake is at the origin of denutrition, which generates weight loss and a state of frailty that could lead to disease.
This silent disease has an impact on health, autonomy, and life expectancy. 2 million people in France suffer from denutrition, mostly among the elderly people.
This commitment aims to raise awareness on undernutrition of the elderly people so this issue can be taken in consideration and addressed through an innovative nutritional solution to enrich meals at home or served in residence for the elderly, hospitals, nursing home, etc
This innovative solution Appeti'mix has been developed by Nutriset following the recommendations of both the Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism and The National High Authority of Health (HAS). A dose of 80 g provides an additional intake of 400 kcal/day and 30g/day of protein; and covers at least 1/3 of the recommended daily nutritional requirements of vitamins and minerals essential for the elderly people.
Three years of research and immersion in the field with the elderly people were necessary to design Appeti'Mix. This solution is to be integrated in food preparation (no taste, no odor) and thus, is consistent with eating habits.
