Livelihood Strengthening, Emergency Food Assistance

Civil society organisation / Central African Republic

July 2025 — July 2029

Description

This project is initiated to meet the emergency food assistance needs of vulnerable populations based in displaced persons camps and host families in the sub-prefectures of BAKOUMA, RAFAI, GAMBO and Bangassou. In doing so, our interventions will encourage returnees to revive agricultural activities by supporting them with food to protect seeds from consumption and trade. Furthermore, this project will also provide care for school-aged children in six (6) targeted schools to improve the low school attendance rates observed in the schools of BAKOUMA, RAFAI, GAMBO, and Bangassou.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

 A- General Objective

Contribute to improving the food and nutritional security of 25,611 displaced/returned beneficiaries living with families, including 14,086 women, through general food distribution/asset creation and support for school canteens in the sub-prefectures of Bangassou, Bakouma, RAFAI, Gambo, and Ouango.

B- Specific Objectives:

Specifically, this project will:

1. Increase equitable access to and utilization of education through school meals for 4,475 schoolchildren (2,461 girls), through the distribution of 165,657 MT of food in the six targeted schools in the MBOMOU prefecture over a 9-month period.

2. Distribute 2,195,294 MT of food to 21,136 people, including 25,510 IDPs from the BADOUNABI sites over a 12-month period. Supporting cooperative associations and federation groups with agricultural kits and inputs, and strengthening the capacity of local communities to protect the environment.

3. Encouraging asset creation through the distribution of 139,915 million tones of food to 4,336 beneficiaries before the end of the project.

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY

As part of the implementation of this project, four cross-cutting strategies will be used, namely the establishment of a complete and continuously strengthened team, community anchoring, partnership, capacity building and participatory advocacy. This is an integrated project (general food distribution to displaced people living in sites and in host families (activity 1), emergency school feeding (activity 2), and the provision of transfers to small farmers to support asset creation and technical assistance to increase their access to markets (FFA/SAMS), including purchases for school feeding.
