Footprint of cell-cultured meat below that of factory-farmed meat by 2025
Description
We will conduct intensive research and development activities to meet this technological goal. Challenges include raw materials (basal medium and growth factors) and capital expenditure (bioreactors).
Overarching commitment (for commitments submitted pre-2025)
Title
Cell-cultured meat for the everyday table
Description
1. We will build a resilient global food system by resolving the feed-food competition. This will be achieved by developing sustainable alternative animal protein sources. The milestones include:
• US$300/kg cell-cultured meat by 2023.
• Price parity with conventional speciality meat by 2025.
• Price parity with conventional meat in general retail by 2030.
2. We will implement a continual improvement process for the cell-cultured meat industry to substantially shrink the environmental footprint of the conventional meat industry. The milestones include:
• Establishment of a life cycle assessment methodology by 2023.
• Footprint of cell-cultured meat below that of factory-farmed meat by 2025.
• Price and footprint parity for cell-cultured poultry by 2040.
