Commitment

Improve nutritious food security and revenue by tackling post-harvest loss

Private sector food business / Nigeria

January 2025 — December 2030

Description

Inyene Agro Processing Factory Ltd commits to setting up 10 additional cost-efficient and gender-sensitive modular food processing facilities beyond its existing 1 in 10 subnational regions of Nigeria in the year following the 2025 Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Summit to 2030. This expansion will give more than 500,000 smallholder farmers in rural communities (70% being women of childbearing age, who are breadwinners of their households) easy access of facilities to add value to their harvested crops within the shortest time, reducing 40% of their harvest loss, which is equivalent to over $9 million estimated worth of their annual revenue loss. This loss of food and revenue directly impacts access to nutritious food in the community and these farmers’ ability to afford a healthy lifestyle. The harvest loss causes farmers to have low purchasing power, depriving them the capacity to afford nutrition-dense food, and it decreases the market supply, making food more expensive. The loss of revenue also limits farmers’ access to quality healthcare services for themselves and their household.

Inyene Agro's innovative sustainable agricultural food system model improves the purchasing power of low-income earners in rural communities, enabling these farmers to access healthy diets and wellness for themselves and others.
