Commitment

Design a national nutrition action plan

Civil society organisation / Japan

January 2010 — January 2026

Description

Using government funds already in place, we will model food assistance for single-mother families from farmers and support groups and spread the programme throughout Japan. We have prepared a complete manual for the project, and we will network with government agencies, support groups and farmers in each local government and advise them on how to participate in the programme prior to implementation.

Overarching commitment (for commitments submitted pre-2025)

Title

Provide food support to single parents.

Description

To prevent undernourishment and loss of access to food for mothers, children and their families, farmers will send fresh food directly to farmers and support groups will provide counselling and other assistance. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, farmers are unable to market their food and have an overabundance of vegetables. Little Ones is the first organisation in Japan to use government subsidies to purchase vegetables in the market, freeze them to keep them fresh and deliver them to families in need.
