Description

Food-Based Dietary Guidelines (Guías Alimentarias Basadas en Alimentos - GABAs) will be developed under the leadership of the Ministry of Health and the Intersectoral Commission for Food Guidelines, through the work organized with the relevant parties at national level. Also on board will be experts in food and nutrition and food systems, along with joint work sessions and the approval of all products that incorporate the Food-Based Dietary Guidelines package.The guidelines will be developed using the methodology set out by FAO headquarters in Rome and approved by the Inter-sectoral Commission for Food Guidelines. The package of products includes multilevel technical recommendations aimed at steering the policies, programs and initiatives undertaken by the various parties involved throughout the food system to address the nutritional issues earmarked as a priority by the country. It also includes the Technical Paper needed for evidence-based decision-making, a policy brief with the most relevant information for advocacy among the various parties and populations involved, and a communication package to distribute priority messages to the target audience.
