Increase social security programmes.

Description

Increase the coverage of nutrition-related social security programmes: The Cabinet Division, in collaboration with the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Food, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Ministry of Social Welfare, Bangladesh National Nutrition Council (for coordination) and development partners, will ensure the resources to increase coverage of the population by social security programmes (from the current 28.7% [Household Income Expenditure Surveys] to 35%); to enhance flexible systems for resilience and to create a database and programmes to reach nutritionally vulnerable populations and provide timely transfer (nutritious food package and/or cash) across urban and rural areas by involving partners, including private sectors, by 2025. To cover additional costs, BDT 12,650 crore will be secured by the government of Bangladesh and its partners. The resource allocation and expenditure will be monitored through a multisectoral nutrition budget tracking system.
