Overarching commitment (for commitments submitted pre-2025)

Title

Reduce childhood stunting.

Description

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in collaboration with 21 relevant ministries (MoA, MoFood, MOFL, MOWCA, MOLGRD&C, MOPME, MOSW, MODMR, MOE, MOEF, MOF, MOInd, MOI, MOP, MOCom, MoRA, MoCHTA, MoYSports, MoLE, MoST, MoWR) and the Cabinet Division, working to implement the Second National Action Plan for Nutrition (NPAN2), commit to reducing childhood stunting among 750,000 children under 5 years of age in both urban and rural areas focusing on gender and equity from 31% in 2017–2018 to 25% by 2025 through the implementation of the NPAN2 and Country Investment Plan 2 (CIP2). There will be a focus on the intensification of multisector and multi-stakeholder efforts to address key determinants of stunting – for example, poor health and nutrition conditions; food insecurity (access, availability and utilisation); and inadequate social protection and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programmes. Progress will be monitored through the Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey, Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey and Food Security and Nutrition Surveillance Project, with support of district and Upazila Nutrition Coordination Committees. The overall estimated cost is approximately BDT 4900 crore. Financial commitment will be tracked through the multisectoral budget tracking system for nutrition.
