Percentage of household consuming adequately iodized salt (% by 2030, 90%)
Description
The governance structure of the Universal Salt Iodization programme will continue to be strengthened. Specifically, the capacity of salt producers to regularly conduct quality assurance and quality control using the web-based monitoring system will be scaled up. External quality assurance and quality control with government inspection agencies will also be strengthened using the web-based monitoring system that was piloted in 2021. Salt used for commercial food (eg, in bakeries and hospital canteens, in processed foods) also needs to be adequately iodised; thus, an assessment of the quality of salt used in commercial foods will be conducted and the private-sector food industry/food service industry will be engaged to further increase the population’s consumption of adequately iodised salt. Annually, the Food Corporation under the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MOINT) will assess the iodine content of household salt.
