Commitment

Scale up the nutrition-sensitive cash transfer programmes to improve food security

Government / Kenya

February 2025 — December 2030

Description

The ministry of Labour and Social Protection commits to protect the vulnerable populations through cash transfers. This will be disbursed to National Safety Net Programme beneficiary households with the aim of promoting nutrition and well-being and protecting the households from food insecurity, which ultimately plays a role in addressing malnutrition burden outcomes for the vulnerable. Within this programme, we have Nutrition Improvement through Cash and Health Education (NICHE) programming, which targets children below 3 years of age and pregnant and lactating mothers and provides a top-up. The desired impact is to be achieved by combining a cash top-up with nutrition and health counselling, which is offered through existing Ministry of Health structures on Maternal, Infant and Young Nutrition known as the Baby-Friendly Community Initiative. Beneficiaries are monitored periodically to track cash transfers and tops disbursed.
