Commitment

Reduce the national prevalence of stunting

Government / Indonesia

June 2025 — June 2029

Description

The Indonesia government commits to reducing national prevalence of stunting from 21.5% in 2025 to 14.2% in 2029. This will be achieved by strengthening nutrition and health services and increasing public spending for cost-effective and accountable nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive programmes to accelerate progress towards global targets set by World Health Assembly and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The commitment includes enhancing nutrition-specific programmes, led by the Ministry of Health, including:

• Antenatal care (ANC) six times for pregnant women.

• Multiple micronutrient supplementation (MMS) for pregnant women.

• Supplementary feeding programmes for pregnant women with chronic energy deficiency.

• Growth monitoring and promotion for children under 5 years of age.

• Promotion, protection and support for infant and young child feeding.

• Management of severe and moderate acute malnutrition.

• Iron and folic acid supplementation for adolescent girls.

The Indonesia government will also continue investing in the existing social protection programmes to ensure equitable access to essential nutrition services and high-quality diets, with a particular focus on vulnerable populations. Furthermore, the government will strengthen the convergence actions across sectors to fulfill the population target’s need.

At the same time, efforts will be made to reduce poverty, through among others, the Free Nutritious Meals programme, which will also target pregnant and lactating women, young children and adolescent girls. This commitment will be implemented through multisectoral and multistakeholder collaboration. Progress will be monitored annually to ensure alignment with the 2029 target.
