Commitment

Inclusion of Nutrition Indicators in management information system

Government / Pakistan

January 2021 — December 2030

Description

Authentic and regular data plays an important role in evidence generation, policy planning and programming.

The government of Pakistan intends to integrate key nutrition programme and impact indicators in regular ongoing national statistical exercises, including the Household Income and Expenditure Survey, Demographic and Health Surveys, Labor Force Surveys and other periodic national statistical exercises.

The process will start with the District Health Information System (DHIS) that collects data health information from basic health units and feeds it into the provincial databases. Infant/young child feeding and maternal and child health and nutrition indicators have been included in the grassroots data collection by lady health workers on the pilot project. The results so far are encouraging and positive. The indicators will be extended to the rest of the country. However, the nutrition-sensitive indicators need to be developed, further improved and integrated to the relevant sectors. In this regard, a multisectoral nutrition information system development is in process that will help provide regular data regarding food security.
