Policy commitment

Description

The government of Nepal (GoN) commits to improving the policy environment for equitable and effective delivery of nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive services. This will be achieved by endorsing the Mother’s Milk Substitutes (Control of Sale and Distribution) Act; enacting a provision of six months’ maternity leave; developing nutrition-specific/nutrition-sensitive sectoral policies and plans; developing standards for food fortification and packaged/processed foods, labelling of packaged foods and regulation of the production, promotion and consumption of unhealthy foods; and implementing a costed five-year action plan for the MSNP III and National Nutrition Policy and Strategy, implemented across the 753 municipalities. The progress will be assessed through review of acts, policies, plans and programmes and regular rigorous monitoring of their implementation. The GoN has estimated that approximately 687 million Nepalese rupees will be required over nine years to cover associated costs, which will be partially supported by development partners and civil society organisations.
