Description
The interventions outlined for implementation under the National Multisectoral Nutrition Action Plan 2021/22–2025/26 (NMNAP II) include:
• Promotion of a diversified diet, including locally available and affordable nutritious foods.
• Promotion of physical activity and healthy lifestyles.
• Prevention of diet-related non-communicable diseases.
• Promotion of food processing and handling to ensure year-round availability of safe and nutritious foods at the household level.
• Improvement of legislation and control of unhealthy foods and drinks, alcohol and tobacco.

Description
The rise in obesity and overweight in the Tanzanian population has compounded the problem of malnutrition, presenting the country with more healthcare and socioeconomic challenges. The government of Tanzania, in collaboration with stakeholders, will strive to maintain prevalence of overweight and obesity below 26% by 2026 by implementing high-impact interventions relating to diets and physical activities, in line with NMNAP II. The estimated cost of these interventions is TZS 12.8 billion (US$5.5 million). Monitoring will be conducted in line with the NMNAP II framework.
