Description
SUN Civil Society Alliance Pakistan is established in 2014 and operationalized in the country with a centralized structure, consisting of an all members General Body an elected, 15 member Executive Committee.
For strengthening the overall institutional structure of SUNCSA Pakistan in Pakistan, the alliance will revise its roles and responsibilities to promote greater organization, coordination, and participation of alliance members at the Federal, Provincial and District levels. For greater linkages, presence, and support of the federal structure, 6 provincial/ regional committees (PCs),1 Regional Coordination Councils (RCCs) for every 10-12 districts, while a district team will be established for each district all over Pakistan
During the year 2022, the SUNCSA Secretariat will complete the preparatory work to execute the establishment of provincial, regional and district bodies. Under the oversight of the Executive Committee (EC), detailed terms of reference for the District Teams (DTs), the Regional Coordination Councils (RCCs), and the Provincial Committees (PCs) will be developed, followed by the endorsement the General Body.
Establishment of the DTs in each of the districts with general body members will be completed in the year 2023. A District Team shall be established with presence of one representative from each CSO. The District Teams shall remain open for induction of representatives in case of expansion of membership within the districts
During the year 2024, RCCs will be formed followed by the establishment of Provincial Committees in all four provinces. RCCs will be established each for a cluster of 10-12 districts with one elected representative from each of the clustered districts. The representatives of the Provincial Committees and the Regional Coordination Councils will be elected by the respective District Teams for a period of 2 years.
From the year 2025 onwards, the strengthened provincial structures will be operational across 4 provinces, under the purview of the EC.

SUN Civil Society Alliance (SUNCSA) Pakistan will strengthen management structure by establishment of provincial, regional and district bodies to encourages purposeful presence, coverage, and representation of civil society for advocating the policy prioritization and improved implementation of nutrition agenda in the country, by 2025.
Decentralization is a main component of SUNCSA's five year strategy (2021-2025). The aim is to have a robust, skilled and well informed civil society in the country, down to the grass roots level, that can effectively complement government in responding to the malnutrition challenge in the country.

| Progress report | SUN Civil Society Alliance (SUNCSA) Pakistan committed to strengthening its management structure by establishing provincial, regional, and district bodies to foster a purposeful presence, broaden coverage, and enhance the representation of civil society for advocating policy prioritisation and improved implementation of the nutrition agenda nationwide. Despite resource constraints and the lack of capacity of CSOs to manage the secretariat at the provincial level make establishing sub-national bodies challenging SUNCSA has made significant efforts to improve presence and representation at all levels. The Alliance has proactively expanded its coverage by mobilising and including members from previously uncovered areas and districts, thereby broadening SUNCSA's reach and influence across various regions and sectors. Additionally, provincial representation of CSOs in the SUNCSA Executive Committee (ExCom) has increased, ensuring diverse perspectives and regional inclusivity in decision-making. Three sub-committees have been formed with representation from all provinces and General Council members, while also ensuring women's representation, to further enhance inclusivity. SUNCSA has also strengthened its collaboration with provincial SUN units to align advocacy efforts and leverage resources effectively. Moreover, SUNCSA is working to create an informal structure at the provincial level by nominating provincial coordinators to strengthening coordination within SUNCSA and external stakeholders, purposeful presence, broaden coverage, and enhance representation. These provincial coordinators will be among the ExCom members from each province, with terms of reference currently in progress. | December 2023 |
