Develop and launch second five-year U.S. Government Global Nutrition Coordination Plan
Description
To launch the second U.S. Government Global Nutrition Coordination Plan 2021–2026, the participating US agencies and departments, together with Bread for the World, 1,000 Days and the US Agency for International Development’s ‘USAID Advancing Nutrition’ program, will share the new coordination plan in a public virtual event on 30 November 2021.
To implement the coordination plan, a technical working group (TWG) comprising members from all participating agencies and departments will serve as the central implementing body of the plan, through which information will be shared and opportunities for coordination and partnerships actively identified. Sub-TWGs will be formed as part of the TWG on an as-needed basis to address discrete issues or opportunities related to one of the six plan priorities that would benefit from coordinated input from participating agencies and departments, and they will remain active until the objectives are achieved. A new Senior Nutrition Champions group, including senior officials from all 12 currently participating US agencies and departments, also has been formed to provide strategic input into the development and implementation of the coordination plan and to elevate the importance of global nutrition collectively and within their respective agencies.

Title
US Global Nutrition Coordination Plan
Description
The US government will launch its second five-year Global Nutrition Coordination Plan on 30 November 2021. This interagency plan creates a platform for coordination and collaboration across relevant US agencies to leverage and enhance our nutrition efforts and investments and to develop a common narrative for the US government's goals for global nutrition. Building on lessons learnt in the first five years and current priorities in global nutrition, this second plan aims to further improve whole-of-government responsiveness to emerging evidence, opportunities and threats, operating through interagency working groups to promote leadership and partnership, support country- and region-led efforts and generate and apply evidence, particularly in the following areas: women's nutrition before and during pregnancy and lactation, breastfeeding, complementary feeding, management of wasting, micronutrient sufficiency and other special areas of emphasis in global nutrition (including the Covid-19 pandemic and other health emergencies, nutrition during middle childhood and adolescence, overweight and obese populations, diet-related non-communicable diseases, environmental health and the impact of the climate crisis on food and nutrition security). Current participating US departments and agencies include the Millennium Challenge Corporation, Peace Corps, USAID, US Department of Agriculture (Office of the Chief Scientist, Foreign Agricultural Service, Food and Nutrition Service), US Department of Health and Human Services (Office of Global Affairs, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Food and Drug Administration, National Institutes of Health), US Department of State and US International Development Finance Corporation.
