Commitment description

Contrary to popular belief, the nutritional needs of older people are equivalent or greater than those of younger adults. However, the spontaneous food consumption of the elderly decreases with age, due to physiological, psycho-social and pathological factors from which they may suffer.

This imbalance between high needs and low intake is at the origin of denutrition, which generates weight loss and a state of frailty that could lead to disease.

This silent disease has an impact on health, autonomy, and life expectancy. 2 million people in France suffer from denutrition, mostly among the elderly people.

This commitment aims to raise awareness on undernutrition of the elderly people so this issue can be taken in consideration and addressed through an innovative nutritional solution to enrich meals at home or served in residence for the elderly, hospitals, nursing home, etc

This innovative solution Appeti'mix has been developed by Nutriset following the recommendations of both the Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism and The National High Authority of Health (HAS). A dose of 80 g provides an additional intake of 400 kcal/day and 30g/day of protein; and covers at least 1/3 of the recommended daily nutritional requirements of vitamins and minerals essential for the elderly people.

Three years of research and immersion in the field with the elderly people were necessary to design Appeti'Mix. This solution is to be integrated in food preparation (no taste, no odor) and thus, is consistent with eating habits.
