Goal action plan

With support from UN Nutrition REACH project, a Multi-Sector Strategic Plan to Reduce Malnutrition in Sierra Leone 2019-2025 was developed and costed. This is the common result framework for partners working with the SUN Secretariat in the fight against malnutrition in the country. The document outlines what actions each SUN platform can undertake to contribute to the reduction of malnutrition in the country. The budget for the implementation of the multi-sector plan was categorized into nutrition specific and sensitive actions as well as nutrition governance.

Partners project activities is based on the multi-sector plan and assessment of progress made is done through the SUN Joint Annual Assessment tool. There are plans for results of the JAA to be a basis to review previous year implemented actions in a bigger forum and the following year activities to be agreed upon for each sector or platform.

Moreover, for effective coordination and collaboration between partners for better impact of project interventions, a stakeholder and nutrition action mapping exercise is currently being undertaken with support from Irish Aid through the UN Nutrition REACH project. Dissemination of the results among implementing partners and donors will contribute to improve planning at national and sub-national levels as well as other multi-sectoral nutrition processes such as coordination, collaboration, and integration of interventions for better impact on target beneficiaries.

Indicator

Primary indicator Percentage Of Children 6-59 Months Who Are Stunted
Indicator monitor National households' surveys such as SMART usually conducted every four years, MICS, DHS and CSFVA conducted every five years. Other indicators such as wasting and underweight are monitored routinely through community screening and referrals as well as growth monitoring and promotion by community health workers and Peripheral Health Staff (PHU) respectively. Monthly data are usually entered into the DHIS2 programme where quarterly reports are generated and presented to partners during nutrition coordination meetings for action.
