Health system strengthening 1.1 Micronutrient supplementation in children, pregnant women and adolescent girls Provide MNPs to children aged 6-23 months through the growth monitoring sessions and nutrition counselling sessions Supplementation of iron-folic acid for adolescent girls through health center services and by community health workers Supplementation of iron-folic acid for pregnant women in the first trimester of pregnancy by enhancing the antenatal contacts and supply chain Implement social and behaviour change communication that are adapted to the challenges and barriers of the specific behaviours based on the situation analysis
2.Food,system,strengthening 2.1 Food-based approach Increase the availability and accessibilities of animal source foods in collaboration with MINAGRI- Provision of capacity building to rural households and private sectors in livestock production, value chain and market analysis (purchase and sales), and business management- Scaling-up the provision of small livestock to target households (e.g. those in poorest wealth categories - Ubudehe 1&2)- Promote the production, access and consumption of bio-fortified crop varieties to vulnerable households- Encourage the growing and consumption of nutrition-rich local fruits and vegetables- Educate agricultural promoters on nutrition-sensitive agriculture and livestock rearing techniques Increase the awareness of the importance of dietary diversity including the consumption of animal source foods Increase the purchasing power of households by promoting saving and lending schemes, developing and supporting small scale income generating activities and linkages to financial institutions
2.2 Food fortification/ home fortification Promote the mass fortification of staple and condiments (maize flour, wheat flour, oil, sugar and salt) Develop and implement the regulation on fortification of foods Develop iron fortified foods though research in collaboration with research institutions, academia and private sector Promote fortified foods in school feeding programs (maize fortification and rice fortification)
